The contributors to this site are working to apply the ideas of Ecohumanist Computing to reflect on the world, motivate new projects and communities, and evaluate whether we think existing projects are compatible with our values.
Here are some of our initial thoughts. We’ll be writing more about them soon!
- We believe digital libraries are strongly aligned with Ecohumanist Computing. Digital libraries collect, organized, archive, and make accessible the vast quantities of human art and knowledge that have been created so far. We are particularly interested in Wikipedia, The Internet Archive, and Anna’s Archive.
- We believe technologies that facilitate secure and private communication between people are strongly aligned with Ecohumanist Computing. We are particularly interested in End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) and The Tor Project
- We are optimistic that Zig is compatible with Ecohumanist Computing. It aims to let you do more with less and take advantage of every capability that your computing hardware has. It also provides an alternate much shorter path to bootstrapping modern computing systems and may play a role in the foundations of future Ecohumanist Computing Systems.
- We are optimistic that Project Gemini is compatible with Ecohumanist Computing. It provides infrastructure for knowledge sharing over the internet with a smaller complexity and implementation footprint than the Web Platform (HTML/CSS/js/Wasm) allowing it to be implemented, deployed, and maintained in a way that is more socially and ecologically sustainable.
